Review of the film ‘Bloodthirsty’ (2020)

Grey is a young singer with a single album released and strange nightmares in which she turns feral. For her nightmares, Dr. Swan prescribes medication. For her musical career, Vaughn Daniels offers to produce her second album. Grey and her girlfriend Charlie move in to Daniels’ isolated manor in the hills, where Daniels leads a secluded life with the only company of the housekeeper. Working with Daniels in the studio gets Grey to experience changes and find another side of herself.

The story is right, but insufficient – it would make for a good 42-minute TV episode, but never for a good 84-minute film. The film’s biggest offence is being 95% build-up and 5% pay-off. Still, this build-up is well-done, with great dialogues that introduce the horror drop by drop.

The direction by Amelia Moses gets the right mood. The scenarios are also adequate. The songs by Lowell are really good and fit well into the story, while the music by Terry Benn is adequate.

The acting is good in general, and that is the sign of a good acting direction, with Lauren Beatty and Greg Bryk being highlighted.

All in all, a good TV episode stretched into a boring film. 2 out of 5.
